
On a recent visit to Mid-Valley Airport, Governor Greg Abbott announced a substantial $26 million boost to South Texas, earmarked for airport and water infrastructure projects in the ever-expanding Rio Grande Valley. In a speech, Abbott described the region as "absolutely booming," highlighting the significant role of its workforce in the statewide economy. "The millions of people who work in the Rio Grande Valley are truly instrumental to the future success of our state," Abbott said, as reported from the official governor's website.
Investments are steered particularly toward eight airport restoration projects and improvements in water and drainage systems, thanks to funds appropriated from House Bill 500. The Governor received the key to the City of Weslaco during the ceremony, recognizing his commitment to South Texas's growth, during the ceremony, which saw not only state and local officials but the smiling faces of the region's hopeful residents. Senator Adam Hinojosa, Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, Representative Armando Martinez, alongside Barbara Garza, Weslaco Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, were among the dignitaries who also opted for the occasion, sharing the limelight with Abbott.
While addressing a crowd brimming with anticipation, the Governor underscored the Rio Grande Valley's pivotal contribution to the robust Texas economy. Echoing his sentiments, Mayor Adrian Gonzalez honored Abbott, extolling, "Today, I brought with me two proclamations that represent sources of funding for water and drainage and airport improvements. Texas will be part of the growing Rio Grande Valley every step of the way," according to details outlined in the Office of the Governor's official announcement.
