The Gresham Police Department is poised to host the fourth installment of Tagg's Dog Days of Summer, a community-engaging event slated for September 20 from 10 am to 2 pm. Taking place in the lot behind City Hall at 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway, residents are invited to enjoy a roster of activities designed to entertain and educate while supporting the department's K-9 Unit. The occasion, free and welcoming to families and individuals of all ages, will also serve a philanthropic purpose by collecting nonperishable food and school supplies for My Father’s House in an effort to assist local families in need.

According to a statement from the City of Gresham, attendees will witness demonstrations of remarkable police K-9 capabilities from the East Metro K-9 Training Unit, encompassing teams from multiple agencies. These include the Gresham, Oregon City, and Lake Oswego police departments, as well as the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Gladstone. Looking to understand how these trained dogs contribute to public safety, residents will have the opportunity to watch these skilled K-9s in action, from local police teams who are part of the East Metro K-9 Training Unit.

The event will not only feature Gresham's comfort dog, Tagg, but also canine colleagues from neighboring jurisdictions, including Remi from Beaverton, Burton representing Multnomah County, and Onyx of Tualatin. Various organizations, such as Working Dogs of Oregon and Guide Dogs for the Blind, alongside therapy dogs from Dove Lewis, will participate, creating an inclusive representation of service animals and the diverse roles they fulfill within the community.

Festivities commence at 10 am sharp with welcome speeches and introductions. Throughout the day, guests can engage in several activities, including a drone demonstration, capture fun moments at a fall-themed photo booth, and attempt to "Soak the Police Chief and Captain" at the popular bucket blast station — all while sipping coffee or munching on hot dogs from vendor booths. Attendees can expect the presence of dogs scheduled to attend, in addition to the East Metro K9 Training Team, to be enthusiastic about their variety of demonstrations and the guidance they offer to humans who depend on their services.

A multitude of sponsors, named in gratitude by the Gresham Police, have been instrumental in orchestrating this community event. Their support underscores the collaborative efforts that make such gatherings a success. Notable sponsors include Alyson Huntting, Chris Cakes NW, and local businesses like Gresham Toyota and Scoop Soldiers, who have collectively played a significant role in sustaining the celebratory and supportive spirit of Tagg's Dog Days of Summer.
