The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has put out a call for public opinion on the upcoming Kūhiō Highway improvements at the intersections of Papaloa Road and Kapaʻa Bypass Road. In a recent announcement, HDOT detailed plans for a community event on Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., which will take place at the Sheraton Kauaʻi Coconut Beach Resort in the Makai Ballroom.
The environmental study, spearheaded by HDOT, will review a myriad of factors, from road safety improvements to the potential effects on the area's culturally significant sites and the environment; as the discussions look to support multimodal connectivity for the community, address travel demand, and aspire to alleviate congestion. According to the same announcement, the study will look at a range of topics, including alternatives to enhance safety, support multimodal connectivity, address travel demand and congestion, as well as the potential impacts on community, natural, cultural, and historical resources within the project area.
Community members who attend the open house event will have the chance to provide their perspectives on the environmental impact of the project and gain insights into the current plans, including its timeline. The HDOT will host a question-and-answer session to address any specific concerns or inquiries from those in attendance.
