Hialeah’s water supply is set for a major upgrade as the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department begins installing a new 54-inch water main, a project expected to cause traffic delays and impact local commuters. According to the City of Hialeah's official announcement, the intersection at W 1st Avenue and W 29th Street is off-limits starting Monday, for about a week to accommodate the nitty-gritty of construction prowess.
Once that phase of the project is complete, drivers on W 29th Street between W 1st and W 4th Avenues will encounter delays as westbound lanes close for an estimated eight weeks, weather permitting. The city has posted detour signs to guide motorists, offering a temporary inconvenience in exchange for improved traffic flow and a more reliable water supply for Hialeah.
Residents navigating the construction disruptions are advised to exercise caution and patience as they find alternative routes around the work zones. City officials say the construction may cause temporary delays but is part of efforts to improve Hialeah’s streets and water system.
