
A hiker in his 30s, struggling with illness on the Makapu'u Trail, was rescued by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) yesterday. The HFD received an emergency call at around 10:11 a.m. and swiftly responded with seven units and 19 personnel to the scene, as reported by The Star-Advertiser.
The teams embarked on foot to aid the distressed hiker, encountering him near the tide pools. HFD arrived at the hiker's location at 10:41 a.m. after the first unit reached the trail at 10:22 a.m., the precise timings of the rescue effort were confirmed by the department. Throughout the ordeal, no injuries were reported among HFD personnel.
The hiker required immediate medical assistance. Upon reaching him, HFD conducted medical assessments and provided basic life support until he could be securely airlifted. This critical evacuation took place at 11:22 a.m., whereafter the hiker was handed over to Emergency Medical Services for further care, as stated by KHON2 News.
