Waikīkī has been rocked by a violent incident that has since been escalated to attempted murder. The Honolulu Police Department reported that a 65-year-old man was found critically injured at a bus stop, bleeding from head wounds caused by apparent blunt force trauma. The assault, initially classified as a felony, has been reclassified to attempted murder following an arrest made in connection to the crime.

Responding to a report Tuesday morning, officers discovered the man unresponsive at the corner of Kūhiō Avenue and Paoakalani Avenue. Nearby, a brick believed to have been used in the attack was found. To initially provide aid and possibly to save his life, the victim was urgently transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. Following investigations, authorities found the suspect had struck the victim multiple times in the head before robbing him. This set the stage for the charges of Attempted Murder and Robbery in the First Degree to be pressed.

Progress in the case came yesterday when officers, engaged in an unrelated investigation, identified and arrested a 32-year-old male suspect. "Today, at approximately 1:15 p.m., District 4 Community Policing Team officers, while investigating an unrelated criminal offense, identified the suspect as a 32-year-old male. He was arrested for Attempted Murder and Robbery," detailed the Honolulu Police Department in their update. Charges are now being sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.

With the investigation still actively unfolding, the Honolulu Police Department continues to appeal to the public for assistance. They urge anyone with information to reach out directly by calling 911 or to remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300 or use the P3 Tips app. The tips can also be reported at any local police station.
