The community of Huntersville is on its way to gaining a new space for both reflection and recreation with a substantial boost from the state, having received a $500,000 grant for the creation of First Responders Park. Governor Josh Stein made the announcement of the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant, which contributes to more than $8.7 million in funds designated for 22 local initiatives across North Carolina, Huntersville's official site reports.
To receive these funds, the town must match the grant, a common requirement for such awards, but it solidifies the local commitment to this project which aims to honor the dedication and sacrifice of first responders. This particular park, which will be situated where Fire Station No. 4 once stood, was renamed First Responders Park by the Town Board of Commissioners on August 5, according to details shared by the Town of Huntersville.
Emphasizing the importance of the investment, Huntersville Mayor Christy Clark stated, "First Responders Park will recognize and honor all first responders in our community, and will expand recreational opportunities for our residents and improve the quality of life for families in our town so they may continue to thrive here." The town's aim with the new park is manifold; not only to pay tribute to those who protect and serve but also to enrich the recreational landscape for Huntersville families, aiming for a harmonious balance of memorialization and leisure.
Huntersville's commitment is evident in their eagerness to bring this project to fruition, providing a space for citizens to honor service, while also engaging with the outdoors, fostering a sense of community and wellbeing as the project takes shape and details emerge, locals can expect regular updates from the town on the progress of First Responders Park, as they become available on the town's website.
