A tragic episode unfolded in Cobb County yesterday evening as a 9-month-old baby succumbed to injuries after being shot at a local motel on Windy Hill Road. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the incident occurred just after 8 p.m. at the Western Inn, near the intersection with Circle 75 Parkway. Upon arrival, Cobb County police officers were greeted by what appeared to be the child's mother, who was reportedly in extreme anguish outside the motel.
Investigative efforts at the crime scene included attention to an area within the Western Inn and near the Budgetel behind a Circle K gas station. Two men were initially detained in connection with the shooting, but one was subsequently released. The Cobb County Police Department has yet to release information regarding the identification or apprehension of suspects in this case. According to an interview by FOX 5, a woman who met the infant just days before the incident described her, "The little baby was precious, sparkling brown eyes. She just had her little two teeth come in, bright smile, just so adorable, just so tiny, so adorable. And she brought us a lot of joy, because we’re homeless out here, just so you know, but she brought a lot of joy to us within the past two days."
On a related note, 11Alive reported disturbances stemming from the Budgetel Inn and Suites, also near the site of the shooting. A woman staying at the Budgetel stated that a mother rushed into the lobby with her baby, crying out that her baby had been shot. An additional witness relayed seeing suspects running inside, carrying out a robbery, changing clothes, and fleeing the scene.
Traffic in the area was heavier than usual due to an event at Truist Park. Witnesses communicated their shock to 11Alive, with one characterizing the scene as "crazy" and lamenting the loss of an innocent baby amid such chaos.
