A teenager was injured in a shooting incident that occurred in Jacksonville's Arlington area when he was caught in the crossfire of a shootout between two Hyundais. The incident took place earlier today on the 3700 block of Rogero Road. According to First Coast News, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, JSO Sgt. Richardson stated that officers found the teen injured and detained both vehicles along with three individuals from one of them.
The teenager, whose age has not been disclosed, was reportedly walking down the street when he was struck in the back by gunfire. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital in "stable condition." According to a report by News4Jax, the occupants of one of Hyundais fled the scene, but three guns were recovered "in and around" a vehicle, and three people were detained.
While details about what triggered the shootout remain unclear, JSO confirmed that both Hyundais involved were recovered, as were the firearms. Action News Jax relayed that the three individuals who are being questioned by police, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Jacksonville community has been alerted to the incident, which has prompted discussions about gun violence in the Arlington area. Despite the chaotic circumstances, the JSO characterized the teen's injuries as non-life threatening.
