The rehabilitation work on U.S. Route 54 over Missouri Boulevard is now complete. Hitting the finish line ahead of the pack, crews wrapped up the project by Wednesday evening, Sept. 3, a full month before the original deadline. This major artery is once again fully operational, as MoDOT announced the lifting of lane restrictions that had slowed traffic down since July 14.
Due to the construction, motorists faced narrowed paths with only one lane open in each direction, a configuration set in place to allow for joint seal replacement, substructure coating, and bridge deck repairs. Despite the foresight for completion stretching into October, it was this diligent contracting team that finished the work several weeks early, as stated by MoDOT.
It's not just U.S. Route 54 that's got its groove back, however. Part of a larger multi-bridge rehabilitation effort initiated back in May, the project also saw the refurbishment of six additional bridges, according to MoDOT. As of now, these upgrades are full steam ahead with no further traffic delays expected on U.S. Route 54 in the capital city.
Yet, there's a note of patience required for travelers venturing south of Jefferson City. Work crews, assembling diligently at the Neighorn Branch, have necessitated a head-to-head single-lane traffic pattern that's set to continue until early November. And let's not forget westbound U.S. Route 54 at the Moreau River Drainage, where one lane will remain closed until early October. MoDOT urges drivers to stay safe in these areas by "buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
