An early morning collision on September 2nd turned tragic on US Highway 90 near the Neco Town Road intersection in Iberia Parish, as reported by the Louisiana State Police. 58-year-old Waddell Mulmore of Lake Charles, driving a 2000 GMC Sierra, was killed when his pickup truck veered off the road, overcorrected and crossed into the opposite lanes, striking a 2020 Nissan Murano, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The Louisiana State Police release detailed that Mulmore was not using a restraint device at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to his sustaining fatal injuries and the murano's driver, while restrained, was seriously injured and is currently receiving care at a nearby hospital, the GMC first left the roadway to the right and then crossed both lanes of US 90 West before entering the median, continued and entered the eastbound path of the Nissan, prompting the fatal collision.
Authorities took routine toxicology samples from the drivers as part of their ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident. These samples are yet to reveal whether impairment was a factor in the devastating sequence of events. Meanwhile, state troopers have issued a statement underscoring the importance of adhering to safety measures while driving, "never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, and follow all traffic laws," they also highlighted the critical protective benefits of always using seat belts, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
