For drivers navigating the boundaries of Council District #4 in Las Cruces, a significant change is looming on the horizon. Starting from September 15, the City of Las Cruces has announced a scheduled road closure on N. Melendres St., which will span from W. Hadley Ave. to W. Mountain Ave. and will persist until December 30. The closure forms part of the Phase 1 reconstruction of the N. Melendres St. Roadway Project and is set to include a plethora of improvements from storm drains to street lighting.
Those reliant on the Roadrunner Transit can breathe easy – their routes remain unaffected despite the upheaval. To accommodate local traffic, operatives from A-Mountain Construction will take advantage of daylight hours each weekday, working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists along alternate paths that should alleviate any entanglement that usually comes with rerouted journeys. Mindful adherence to these postings will be crucial for maintaining the flow of diverted traffic.
The extensive scope of work undertaken for this roadway project covers the installation of storm drain inlets, pavement, curb, and gutter, complete with driveways, ADA-compliant ramps, sidewalks, and modern street lighting enhancements. It's a tall order, encompassing also utilities such as water, sewer, and gas systems. A tangible testament to the city's commitment to infrastructural growth and the well-being of its citizens' commute.
