The City of Las Cruces is gearing up for an aquatic showdown, as the Las Cruces Natatorium prepares to host the Pecan Classic Swim Meet scheduled for September 26 through September 28. In anticipation of the event, the natatorium will shut its doors to the public at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 26, pausing its regular swim schedules until the following Monday at 6 a.m. on September 29. This temporary closure is to accommodate the meet that will see swimmers across the region dive into competition.
For those looking to make a splash over the weekend, the Regional Aquatic Center Activity Pool has got your backstroke covered. Continuing its service to the community, the activity pool will remain open for public swimming, catering to those displaced by the event. According to the City of Las Cruces on their official website, swimmers can still enjoy aquatic activities without missing a beat.
Residents in the vicinity of the natatorium should be aware that there might be a bigger splash in traffic and parking than usual. Disruptions are expected as the city accommodates the flock of swimmers, coaches, and spectators descending upon Las Cruces for the three-day event. The Parks & Recreation department asks for the community's understanding and cooperation as these changes are navigated, promising a return to normalcy come Monday morning.
