A 34-year-old Lexington man, Jonathan V. Murray, has been arrested and faces charges that could lead to decades in prison following allegations of sexual assault involving a minor. On September 18, the suspect was taken into custody, as reported by Central Illinois Proud. The arrest came in the wake of an investigation stemming from a May 28 complaint regarding Murray's alleged inappropriate interactions with a juvenile girl.
Authorities, who began to actively pursue the case after the initial report, learned through their investigation that Murray allegedly engaged in predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, as well as criminal sexual assault of a family member under 18. The Lexington Police Department worked in conjunction with the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to delve into the allegations. This collaborative effort ultimately led to an arrest warrant being issued for Murray.
Murray was processed into the McLean County Jail shortly after his arrest. If convicted of the charges, he may face up to 60 years of incarceration.
