On Monday, a motorcyclist lost their life in a collision at a Livermore intersection. The incident occurred at around 4 AM when the 37-year-old motorcyclist from Livermore was making a turn at the junction of Airway Boulevard and Isabel Avenue and subsequently lost control.
The rider was at a stop, facing west on Airway Boulevard at the traffic light, gearing up to head north onto Isabel Avenue. In the midst of this maneuver, control was lost, leading the motorcycle to veer across Isabel Avenue, where it hit a vehicle that was slowing down for the red signal while preparing to turn left and subsequently struck a concrete barrier. According to the Livermore Police Department's post, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle involved, a 35-year-old resident of Modesto, was alone in his car at the time of the accident. He placed the 911 call immediately following the collision and has worked closely with authorities. As investigations continue, the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will disclose the rider's identity once they have notified the rider’s next of kin.
Following the fatal crash, traffic on Isabel Avenue near the Interstate 580 was disrupted for about four hours, with one southbound lane remaining closed to allow for an extensive investigation and clean-up. Livermore Police are appealing to the public for anyone with information pertaining to the incident to contact their Traffic Unit at (925) 371-4850.
