A Long Beach, California resident has been handed a decade in federal prison following his conviction for methamphetamine trafficking charges. According to a KTLA report, Derrick Polk, age 62, was sentenced after being found guilty of conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine.
Details shared by the Department of Justice revealed that between April 2019 and July 2021, Polk was involved in a drug conspiracy within the Western District of Pennsylvania. During this time, it was disclosed that he had intentions to distribute 500 grams or more of a meth mixture. Furthermore, around April 2021, Polk had possession of an equally substantial amount with the intent to distribute, according to information from a Justice Department news release.
Law enforcement intercepted communications through a federal wiretap, capturing Polk obtaining the narcotics, which he later distributed to others. Alongside his prison term, Polk is mandated to five years of supervised release after serving his sentence, and he is required to forfeit a significant sum of $399,000, a slew of Rolex watches and jewelry valued at over $150,000, and a firearm.
This case fell under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti acknowledged the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies in bringing Polk to justice, including the FBI's Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, Homeland Security Investigations, as well as state and local Pennsylvania law enforcement.
