Chaos erupted at a usually quiet intersection in El Paso when a man, now in custody, allegedly threatened another with a handgun. In a recent post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, it was reported that deputies responded swiftly to the incident at Doniphan Drive and Los Mochis Avenue on Wednesday. The victim described a harrowing encounter, stating that a man had been aggressively following him, brandishing a weapon, and yelling profanities.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, joined by Deputies from the El Paso County Constables' Office, managed to quickly locate the suspect after getting reports of the armed individual. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and 32-year-old Samuel Jeremiah Romero was identified as the suspect in question. According to a Facebook post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, he was loading a magazine into the firearm, escalating the threat level and causing alarm among witnesses and law enforcement alike.
Romero is now being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility, as per Sheriff Ugarte's social media update. He has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, each carrying a bond of $5,000. Additionally, Romero faces a charge of Disorderly Conduct, with another bond set at $5,000, bringing the total amount needed for his release to $15,000.
