A fatal altercation at a Tulsa QuikTrip gas station has ended the life of 36-year-old Justin Mattingly following a parking lot confrontation. The Tulsa Police Department reported via the Tulsa Police Department's post that officers were called to the scene late on September 21 after a dispute that began inside the convenience store escalated fatally outside.

Police discovered Mattingly with a critical gunshot wound to the head at approximately 11:20 p.m., making threats back at the man who assaulted him inside the store. Store video footage showed an ongoing altercation with an unidentified man. Despite the efforts, Mattingly succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

The tension spilled outside where, as stated by Tulsa Police, Mattingly and a companion, both on motorcycles, confronted the shooter once more. Mattingly's apparent reaction to the conflict, kicking the man's car door, was followed by a fatal gunshot while walking away.

The shooter, who has not been identified, was questioned by police and subsequently released without arrest. The individual fired the shot from within the confines of his car, striking Mattingly as he began to leave the gas station. At present, he faces no charges as the investigation continues.

All evidence and findings from the ongoing inquiry will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office as per the Tulsa Police Department. It will be the responsibility of the DA's Office to meticulously review the collected data and to determine the appropriateness of any criminal charges regarding this incident.
