
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Valdosta, Georgia, that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Tychicus Armondo Deshazer on Thursday.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a Valdosta Police Department officer responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Lamar Street. The officer saw Deshazer armed and entering S.L. Mason Elementary School. Police confronted Deshazer as he moved toward the school’s entrance, which led to the shooting. Attempts were made to save Deshazer’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prior to the confrontation, Deshazer reportedly fired at multiple vehicles in a pickup line outside the school. One car was struck, but no injuries were reported. The school was placed on lockdown for safety.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation and submit its findings to the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
