A fatal shooting in City Heights left a man dead yesterday, stirring unease in the San Diego community. According to a San Diego Police Department press release, at approximately 11:55 PM, officers were alerted to gunshots near 43rd Street and Polk Avenue. After canvassing the area, they discovered a man with at least one gunshot wound in a west alley of 43rd Street, between University Avenue and Polk Avenue.
Despite efforts to save his life, the man, who is believed to have been homeless, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. His identity remains undisclosed as authorities work on notifying family members. An altercation involving the victim and another individual reportedly preceded the gunfire. San Diego Police have detained and interviewed a person of interest, but that individual has since been released pending further inquiries.
