Officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Northwest Nicolai Street at 8:36 p.m. following reports of gunfire and a victim being struck. On arrival, law enforcement discovered a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds, according to a police statement.
Efforts to save the man's life were promptly administered by a community member and soon thereafter by paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Homicide detectives from the Portland Police Bureau are actively investigating the shooting. Despite their efforts, enveloped by the night's shadow, the victim's identity is pending release upon confirmation of death cause by the Medical Examiner and notification of next of kin, the police detailed.
