A tragic incident occurred in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood on Monday evening, where a 63-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle. The collision, reported by SPD Blotter, took place at around 7:00 p.m. in the 5900 block of Aurora Avenue North. The Seattle Police Department and Seattle Fire Department medics responded to the emergency, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arriving officers discovered the victim lying unconscious with severe injuries. Investigations by the SPD's Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) determined that the man had been crossing Aurora Avenue North westbound, doing so outside of a marked crosswalk, when the vehicle, driven by a 27-year-old woman, collided with him. The driver stayed on the site and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation, and no signs of impairment were found in the initial screening.
In their attempts to piece together the events leading up to this fatal moment, detectives processed the scene meticulously. The investigation is still in motion, with TCIS detectives spearheading the efforts to understand the finer details of the collision's causation. As the Seattle community grapples with another life lost on its streets, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward and contact TCIS at 206-684-8923, aiding in the collection of pieces that might help make sense of the tragedy.
