Yesterday morning, a blaze in Boynton Beach claimed the life of a man, as local firefighters and police responded to a report of smoke in a neighborhood near Venice Drive. According to CBS12, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. and upon arrival, the Boynton Beach Fire Rescue (BBFR) and the Boynton Beach Police Department (BBPD) discovered a deceased man within the residence.
The state of the home's interior indicated substantial damage, particularly in the kitchen where the fire seemingly originated. A neighbor, Keith Baker, expressed his surprise at the unfolding events, "Nothing at all. Heard nothing until I opened my window and saw the police outside in the yellow tape around the house, because originally, they thought it was a crime scene." Baker told WPBF. The house itself requires considerable repairs, with scorched floors and melted appliances marking the tragedy.
Investigators from both local authorities and the State Fire Marshal have started delving into the causes of the fire and the man's death. The details of the investigation are yet to be clarified as officials remain tight-lipped during this preliminary stage.
The owner of the property, who has chosen to remain anonymous, disclosed to WPBF that the deceased was renting the property. They stated, "The house can fixed, but it's sad this tragedy happened." Moreover, neighbors suggested the victim had health issues; one local recounted, “He must’ve collapsed on the floor and whatever he was cooking on the stove … hit the microwave, and it’s all melted and black. and it’s all black stuff all over the place." This insight provides a possible narrative of the fire's origin, though official confirmation awaits the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
As of now, authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, and it remains unclear if foul play is suspected in this incident.
