A second shooting in as many days has rattled North Memphis, this time leaving a man in critical condition on Eldridge Avenue. According to WREG, the victim was found after police responded to a call at 5:52 p.m. in the 220 block of Eldridge. This incident marks yet another burst of gunfire in an area already tense from Thursday's fatal shooting in the 2300 block of the same street.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD), as of now, has not taken any suspects into custody, and the investigation continues. The latest victim was transported to the hospital under critical conditions, as stated in a report from Action News 5. Details on the identity of the man or possible motives for the shooting have not been released.
Meanwhile, FOX13 Memphis reports that the same neighborhood witnessed another violent episode near Eldridge Avenue and Springdale Street just after 6 p.m., close on the heels of the earlier aforementioned incidents. The two shootings, only days apart, have spread unease among residents, with MPD yet to determine if the attacks are related.
With the Hyde Park community on edge, MPD's investigation into both shootings is ongoing. Police have not yet drawn connections between the two attacks, nor has there been any indication of an arrest related to these recent outbursts of violence.
