A 67-year-old Mandeville woman, Lillian Sellers, was arrested this week after a hit-and-run incident that critically injured a coworker at the Greenbriar Community Care Center in Slidell. According to the WWL-TV report, Sellers is accused of hitting the victim with her SUV and then proceeding to work as if nothing had occurred. Police were initially dispatched to the scene late Sunday night with the belief that the victim had simply fallen, but medical personnel later connected her injuries to those consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
On Monday, detectives from the Slidell Police Department reviewed surveillance footage that showed the victim being "violently struck by a backing SUV," after which Sellers got out of her car, picked up a broken bumper piece, and returned to work. An interview by WDSU News with Greenbriar Community Care Center officials resulted in a statement expressing that staff and residents are "shaken up" and offering prayers for the victim's family. Sellers was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury, negligent injuring, and obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence. Her bond has not yet been announced.
Slidell Police have said there is no evidence to suggest the collision was intentional, citing Sellers' apparent rush to a work-related task. "For those saying it was intentional, the suspect, Lillian Sellers, was clocking into work (presumably running late) and rushing / driving recklessly to get to her assigned location at the facility," Slidell Police explained in a statement obtained by WDSU. The moments captured before the video shows Sellers entering the building to clock in, only to return shortly to leave.
Despite the claims of there being no intent to harm, the Slidell PD maintains that the case is still under active investigation. Details surrounding the incident continue to emerge, with eyewitness accounts indicating Sellers had a history of erratic driving in the parking lot. Sellers herself offered no explanation during questioning and inscrutably shrugged—a response brought to light by FOX 8 Live.
