A manhunt is currently underway in San Mateo County after an individual with an active warrant fled from law enforcement, prompting an alert from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. The suspect eluded deputies during a traffic stop conducted yesterday on Highway 1 near Gray Whale Cove State Beach. According to the social media post by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, a significant police presence was established along the coastal highway as officers embarked on the search, advising the public to avoid the area.
It all started when deputies spotted the suspect's vehicle and moved to make an apprehension. The driver, however, had no plans to comply. Following a brief chase, the suspect abandoned their car and took off on foot. Multiple assets, including K-9 units and drones, were deployed to scour the region. Despite their efforts, community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to law enforcement officers actively patrolling the vicinity to maintain public safety.
As evening approached, the situation seemed to de-escalate as the initial request for residents to avoid the highway corridor was lifted. "Sheriff’s deputies are actively patrolling the area to ensure the safety of our community," the Sheriff's Office affirmed. Coordination with local agencies persisted as they utilized numerous methods in their ongoing quest to locate the suspect.
