Asador Del Sur, a South American restaurant in Maplewood, caught fire on Saturday night, forcing a quick evacuation of customers. FOX2Now reported that the fire started around 9:30 p.m. at the Manchester Road location. Firefighters from Maplewood, Webster Groves, and Brentwood responded to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
According to KSDK, part of the building’s second floor collapsed into the first, leading to an evacuation order for firefighters. Maplewood Fire Chief Pete Marsac confirmed all personnel exited safely, and no injuries were reported among staff or customers. Witnesses described smoke filling the building as people left. Fire officials believe the fire may have started in the kitchen, though the cause has not been confirmed.
Fire crews battled flames visible from the second-floor windows. The restaurant sustained significant damage, but no nearby structures were affected.
First Alert 4 reported that community members expressed hopes that the restaurant will be able to rebuild and reopen. The building is currently closed and surrounded by caution tape while damage assessments are underway.
