A tragic outbreak of violence has left two dead and five injured after a mass shooting occurred on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reported being called to the 6800 block of Shore Terrace early Sunday morning, following the incident which took place outside in a parking lot, according to WTHR.
Amid the chaos, six males and one female sustained gunshot wounds, with 38-year-old Rodney Allen Taylor and 29-year-old Dante Lynn Hogans succumbing to their injuries, as confirmed by the Marion County Coroner's Office; meanwhile, three of the victims remain in critical condition and two in serious but stable condition, with wounded parties seeking aid from varying sources including ambulances, a local hospital and a nearby fire department, as reported by WTHR.
Officers responded to a call initially about one individual being shot at the location, yet upon their arrival, they located multiple victims—five who were injured at the scene, with two pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, as detailed in a police statement obtained by ABC News. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, though IMPD has noted that a disturbance occurred prior to the gunfire.
No arrests have been announced in the aftermath of the incident which has prompted IMPD to seek assistance from the public as the investigation unfolds, Detective Christopher Winter can be reached with any relevant information on the shooting and there exists a potential $1,000 reward for tips leading to a felony arrest as noted by IMPD—anyone wishing to provide anonymous information can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana, this information has been relayed by multiple outlets including WRTV.
This violent event closely trailed another episode on the northwest side of the city where two police officers came under threat; an armed individual at a McDonald's restaurant allegedly endangered employees, resulting in an officer-involved shootout where thankfully no injuries were reported, as stated in a statement by Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Berry, this event further entrenches a disturbing night of violence in Indianapolis, as per ABC News.
