The announcement, dated September 4, details Knowlton's history and achievements leading up to this significant elevation within the department.
According to the social media post by Sevierville Fire Department, "SFD is pleased to announce the promotion of Matthew Knowlton to the position of Battalion Chief!" Heading the Red Shift team as the shift commander, Knowlton has been a part of the fire service since 2002 and, before stepping into his new boots as a Battalion Chief, served commendably as a Lieutenant after being promoted in 2017. The announcement reveals that, overseeing all three stations, Knowlton served commendably as a company officer, notwithstanding the hardships faced while juggling supervisory roles.
Notably, Battalion Chief Knowlton's portfolio of service includes active participation on committees and work groups central to the department's functioning. These include driving initiatives on the Apparatus Committee, standardizing Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs), and steering improvements in Database Management. His achievements in education complement his practical experience, having recently completed a program at the National Fire Academy and holding a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina.
Shared in jubilation with his wife, Jacque by his side, Knowlton's tenure at the Sevierville Fire Department has been decorated with several certifications and awards, which attest to his commitment and expertise in the realm of firefighting and emergency services.
