A Memphis caregiver has been charged with abuse following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Medicaid Fraud Control Division. Shanda Michele Jackson, who was tasked with in-home care for a TennCare recipient, allegedly had a physical altercation with the vulnerable adult under her care. The investigation, which began last Wednesday, was initiated after a referral from Adult Protective Services concerning Jackson who was born on July 20, 1978.

After looking into the situation, TBI agents gathered enough evidence to obtain a search warrant and, with help from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, they apprehended Jackson on Tuesday, charging her with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult, she was booked into the Shelby County Jail before being released on a $5,000 bond.

While Jackson is out on bond, the legal process will proceed as investigators build their case and prepare for a potential trial. Jackson is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as established by the legal system. Further details may emerge as the case progresses. For more information, visit the TBI Newsroom.
