Lee commented on the collaborative efforts to address crime in the city, stating, "For months, I have been in constant communication with the Trump Administration to develop a multi-phased, strategic plan to combat crime in Memphis, leveraging the full extent of both federal and state resources," as reported by the Tennessee Office of the Governor. While coordinating with the FBI, Tennessee National Guard, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Memphis Police Department, this next phase aims to build on the successes of Operation Viper, a mission that has resulted in the arrest of hundreds of violent offenders an ongoing FBI mission in Memphis with a dedicated task force of federal, state, and local law enforcement that, in close cooperation to create a more secure environment for the citizens of Memphis.
Highlighting the local and national collaboration, Governor Lee stated to the Tennessee Office of the Governor, "The next phase will include a comprehensive mission with the Tennessee National Guard, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Memphis Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, and we are working closely with the Trump Administration to determine the most effective role for each of these agencies to best serve Memphians." Further elaborating on the tactical approach, the Governor also announced the authorization of an additional THP surge in Shelby County, exemplifying his commitment to tackling crime through the synergistic efforts of state-level enforcement working in concert with the Memphis Police Department via the Bluff City Task Force.
