
Early Monday morning, a burglary attempt rattled the serenity of Poplar Avenue when perpetrators targeted the New Balance store at 5502 Poplar Avenue. The Memphis Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 4:25 a.m. after an unknown male in a blue shirt and two accomplices, one in a black hoodie and another in dark clothing, tried to breach the entrance of the business, as reported by the Memphis Police Department's news release.
Upon their arrival, officers took note of the visible damage to the store's door and handle; investigators then turned to security footage for clues, it depicted a black Dodge Ram 2500 with Mississippi plates BLCB3TY reversing near the door, a passenger emerging to seemingly attach something to the door handle while a smaller red pickup truck driven by another suspect was captured with one trying unsuccessfully to pry open the business with a crowbar.
The assailants' efforts were thwarted as they were unable to gain entry to the store, a narrative confirmed by the surveillance video. Descriptions of the suspects have been circulated: Suspect #1, a male in a blue shirt, dark-colored pants, and a ski mask; Suspect #2 in a black hoodie; and Suspect #3 is described simply as wearing dark clothing, as detailed by the MPD news release.
The Memphis Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH (2274). The search for the individuals continues, while the business assesses the damage from the burglary attempt as they clean up and prepare the store to reopen to the community.
