Memphis police are on the hunt for a suspect tied to a string of burglaries at East High School and the University of Memphis campus. According to the Memphis Police Department report, Tony Caldwell is the alleged perpetrator behind two burglaries at East High School on July 30 and September 15, 2025. Caldwell reportedly exploited unlocked doors to gain entrance and pilfer a medley of items, ranging from tools and computers to medications and backpacks. These items were later found stashed away, only to be recovered and promptly returned to the school.
The saga continued on September 19, when Caldwell allegedly struck again, this time targeting the University of Memphis campus. He is accused of breaking into multiple buildings and absconding with various items. In an update by the Memphis Police, they clarified that Caldwell's method involved leaving the buildings in an unknown direction after the act, leaving investigators to untangle his trail. The details of what was taken from the university remain undisclosed as the investigation proceeds.
Memphis authorities have formally issued an arrest warrant for Caldwell in connection with the East High School incidents. Witnesses and surveillance have described Caldwell as a Black male with long black dreads, standing around 5’09”, and weighing approximately 210 lbs. At present, Caldwell remains at large, and law enforcement is actively soliciting the public’s help to ascertain his whereabouts.
