
Memphis police are on the lookout for three suspects involved in an aggravated assault and theft on Watkins Street on Wednesday. According to the Memphis Police Department's official news release, the incident took place at the Valero gas station located at 2690 Watkins Street.
The report indicates that around 3:26 p.m., three Black males arrived in a dark SUV and entered the business. Witnesses identified the first suspect as the driver, describing him with brown dreadlocks featuring highlighted tips, wearing a yellow graphic t-shirt, blue shorts, and a ball cap. The second suspect, seated in the front passenger seat, wore a light-colored t-shirt, dark sweatpants, and a red ball cap. The third suspect, who had black dreadlocks, a mustache, and a goatee, was dressed in a black long-sleeve graphic shirt and blue jeans. The situation escalated when suspect #1 took several cases of beer and attempted to leave without paying, while suspect #2 completed a legitimate purchase at the counter.
The situation quickly escalated when the complainant attempted to confront the suspects outside the establishment. The Memphis Police Department notes, "The complainant exited the business behind the suspects and attempted to recover the stolen items when he was advised that suspect #3 pointed a handgun at him while seated in the rear driver’s side seat of the SUV." After the confrontation, the suspects fled the scene, heading eastbound on Delano Ave.
