Miami residents can expect scorching temperatures today, with the mercury forecast to nudge near record levels for the region. According to the NBC Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Miami are gearing up for highs around 93 degrees, putting them on the brink of historical peak temperatures for this date. Miami, in particular, is teetering on the edge of surpassing its existing record of 93 degrees.
However, this bout of intense heat is not expected to last. "Thunderstorms come roaring back into the forecast Wednesday and into Thursday, and may hold right into the weekend," reports NBC Miami. Transitional weather patterns suggest that after an isolated storm today, the rest of the week will see scattered afternoon storms with variable cloud cover and slightly cooler, yet still warm, temperatures hovering in the high 80s to near 90 degrees.
The National Weather Service provides a more detailed breakdown of the impending weather changes. The forecast from NWS states that a "30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 9pm" is to be expected tonight, followed by days that will bring "a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" in the evenings, along with likely downpours and thunderstorms right through to the weekend.
As the week unfolds, the probability of precipitation steadily strengthens. The chances of thunderstorms and showers are projected to be as high as 70 percent on certain days. While Thursday may offer a temporary reprieve from the swelter with highs near 87, be prepared for "showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm," as forecasted by the National Weather Service. High humidity levels paired with stormy conditions could lead to slightly discomforting climes, indicative of South Florida's typical weather tableau.
