Miami Beach is gearing up for the grand opening of the expansive Bayshore Park, set to become a central hub for recreation and outdoor enjoyment. Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will unveil the far-reaching 19.4-acre park located at 2400 Pine Tree Drive. Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner expressed his enthusiasm about the park's potential impact on community life. "Bayshore Park is a transformational milestone for Miami Beach and a once-in-a-generation investment that redefines how we live, play, and connect as a community," he told Miami Beach's official website.
The park comes packed with features, including a signature lake, a captivating center island, a dog park, and six competition-level tennis courts. "At nearly 20 acres, it is one of the most significant public spaces in our city’s history and shows that in Miami Beach, health, safety, and quality of life are not distant goals — they are the foundation of our community every single day," Meiner added, according to the city's press release.
Funded in part by a 2018 voter-approved General Obligation Bond, Bayshore Park is not just your run-of-the-mill green space. It features an earthen amphitheater, playground, pathways, and a jogging trail, among additional amenities like a serpentine boardwalk, pavilion, butterfly garden, vita course, and fitness cluster. For the evening strollers, Sunset Hill is touted as one of the best spots in the city for a picturesque sunset view.
Commissioner Alex Fernandez cited the park as a model of sustainability and environmental stewardship due to an extensive remediation effort. “After decades of planning, we’ve transformed what was once a par 3 golf course into a beautiful park — now a model of sustainability and environmental stewardship thanks to extensive remediation,” Fernandez stated in the same Miami Beach announcement. The park's central lake system is designed with a water circulation system to keep it oxygenated, which also includes lake overlooks and infrastructure that mitigates stormwater runoff from the surrounding neighborhoods. For security, Bayshore Park will be fitted with a motion-activated lighting system and security cameras.
Parking for those attending the grand opening is available at the nearby Miami Beach Senior High School, located at 2231 Prairie Ave, with free shuttles ferrying guests to and from Bayshore Park during the event hours.
