Over the weekend, a team from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue became heroes after saving four individuals from a capsized boat in the Atlantic Ocean. As reported by Local10, the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched an alert around 4 p.m. Sunday for a vessel in distress around seven miles off Haulover Beach. Responding to the call, fire rescue personnel discovered four people marooned atop their 25-foot boat's hull, which was overwhelmed and succumbing to the watery depths.
Rescue efforts were swift, as evidenced in a video shared by MDFR that showed the stranded boaters, sitting atop their partially submerged craft. The fireboat crew brought them back to terra firma, with no reported injuries from the ordeal. Emphasizing safety in boating activities, an MDFR spokesperson highlighted in a statement obtained by Local10, "MDFR reminds those who are planning to go boating to always check weather conditions before heading out on the water, file a float plan and have a VHF radio tuned into channel 16 to signal for help if an emergency occurs."
Complementing this account, WSVN detailed that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had been alerted to the incident nearly seven miles offshore near the 10800 block and Collins Avenue. The four boaters, after their boat fell prey to the elements and capsized, were found clinging to the vessel before being pulled from the open water.
