A shooting incident in Miami Gardens has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old woman on charges of attempted murder. Jahniya Imani Meda is accused of shooting another woman, who had come to her home after spotting her boyfriend's car parked outside. The confrontation occurred last Saturday morning, just before 9:50 a.m., at a residence in the 3000 block of Northwest 184th Street, as reported by Local 10.
After arriving at Meda's house and knocking on the door, the victim reportedly asked her boyfriend to come outside. Turning away from the door, she began walking toward a side gate when Meda stepped onto the porch and fired two shots. Claiming self-defense, Meda said she fired while stating, "Get from my house," according to a report obtained by NBC Miami. The incident was recorded by a Ring camera. Seen fleeing in a Mercedes-Benz, the victim's boyfriend was later detained for questioning.
The injured woman was found in a Nissan Altima at Walt Frazer Park, with wounds to her "buttocks and back area," and subsequently received treatment at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. Investigators discovered two spent casings on the front porch of Meda's home and detained her as the potential shooter, as detailed by Local 10.
Meda, currently held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, was recognized by the victim from a prior incident involving the same boyfriend. Meda told investigators that the victim banged on the door and yelled, "going to beat her a--," having observed her walking toward the side gate of the residence, then made the decision to shoot, as stated in a report by Local 10.
During a court appearance, prosecutors argued that the victim had approached Meda's residence with the intent to engage in a physical altercation. Meda's defense team contended that she exercised her right to defense. The judge in the case ordered Meda to have no contact with the victim and denied bond. This information was detailed according to NBC Miami.
