Miami International Airport (MIA) has earned the recognition as North America's most-improved mega airport in terms of customer satisfaction, according to the latest J.D. Power's 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study. The airport's significant leap is marked by a 24-point increase in its overall score, propelling it from 10th to 8th place among the busiest airports. This improvement comes off the back of surveys completed by more than 27,000 U.S. and Canadian residents who traveled through either country's airports from August 2024 through July 2025.
Daniella Levine Cava, the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, expressed her excitement about the development, "I am thrilled to see that the unprecedented investments we have made to transform the customer experience at MIA — from facility upgrades to increased workforce — are making such a strong impression on our visitors," as she told Miami-Dade County's official release. The rise in customer satisfaction score coincided with MIA managing to also serve a record number of passengers during the busy fall and winter seasons, totaling nearly 56 million passengers for the year.
The J.D. Power study, which encompasses several factors including departure experience and terminal facilities, observed MIA's improvements despite it serving 3.5 million more travelers in 2025 than in the previous year. This surge in passenger numbers highlights not only the airport’s capacity to handle growth but also its ability to maintain high levels of customer service amidst such a challenge.
Alongside its customer satisfaction accolades, MIA has been on a consecutive streak of breaking its own passenger records for the third year in a row. In an ongoing effort to keep enhancing the experience of its users, the airport has been diligently executing its $9 billion Modernization in Action (M.I.A.) Plan. The program recently celebrated the reopening of its latest pair of renovated moving walkways, marking the 23rd modernization of conveyance units just this year, with 15 more expected to be complete by year’s end. This puts the airport on track to surely set a new record for the most modernization achievements in a single year, according to the same press release.
The M.I.A. Plan is more than just a series of superficial upgrades; it's a comprehensive overhaul designed to touch every aspect of the passenger experience. This includes updating nearly 200 public restrooms, enhancing 75% of the airport’s passenger boarding bridges, the recent opening of a new 2,240-space Ibis garage, and the planned completion of the new Concourse K in 2029. These steps collectively aim to improve the travel ecosystem at MIA and, by extension, the impression it leaves on its growing number of visitors.
