Daisy Link, the center of a sensational case combining allegations of murder and a jailhouse pregnancy, will not be able to use a "stand your ground" defense in her upcoming trial for the 2022 killing of her husband, Pedro Jimenez. Miami-Dade Judge Lody Jean rejected Link's defense motion, as reported by NBC6.
Link, who accused her marriage of being "tumultuous" and claimed she shot Jimenez in self-defense due to domestic violence, pointed to Florida’s “stand your ground” law as her legal shield. However, evidence including 911 calls, body camera recordings, and a Ring video from the night of the shooting do not work in her favor. Ring footage shows Link holding what appears to be a gun and making a statement that led Judge Jean to highlight her "calm and joking demeanor," which was said in a statement obtained by Local 10 News.
The decision means the second-degree murder charge stands, and Link's legal team must prepare for trial, with no date yet scheduled. Link's attorney, Tony Thomas, stated that her children could testify to support her claims, emphasizing her precautions like "changing her locks" and intentions to move away from Jimenez. "He wasn’t supposed to be there, and he was doing something he wasn’t supposed to do, which put her in fear. That’s why those witnesses are important," Thomas told NBC6.
Adding to the case's unique circumstances, Link became a figure of national intrigue in 2024 by becoming pregnant while incarcerated. It was alleged that Link received semen from a male inmate through an air conditioning vent at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, despite the two having never seen each other, as noted in a tip to Local 10 News. She has since given birth to the child, who is now cared for by family members. The Department of Corrections has yet to comment on the specifics of the pregnancy investigation.
