With the municipal election scheduled for November 4, Milton residents are reminded that the voter registration deadline is fast approaching. The race for Mayor and three City Council seats will be decided this fall, with only Council District 3/Post 1 being a contested seat. Incumbent Jan Jacobus faces challenger Ike Yancy in what's shaping up to be a closely watched competition. A Georgia Public Service Commissioner contest for District 3 will also be featured on the ballot. According to a recent announcement by the City of Milton, the election is being administrated by Fulton County rather than the city itself.
For those wishing to participate in the election, registration is mandatory. Prospective voters must be registered at their current Milton residence. If you're unsure about your registration status, you’ll want to visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. Changes to registration or updating home address information must be completed by October 6. For complete details on how to register, head over to the Secretary of State's registration page.
In addition to Election Day voting, registered voters are afforded the opportunity to cast their votes through absentee ballots or via in-person Advance Voting. Anyone interested in absentee voting can apply now through October 24. Once an absentee ballot is received, voters can make their selections and mail back the ballot or drop it off at any authorized Fulton County drop box before or on November 4. The Fulton County elections page provides necessary instructions on how to request an absentee ballot.
Advance Voting takes place from October 14 through October 31, offering registered voters a chance to head to the polls early. During this period, ballots can be cast at any designated Fulton County polling location, such as the Milton Library. It's important to note that this year's Advance Voting locations have shifted compared to those used in the 2023 municipal election. To find out where you can exercise your vote during Advance Voting or on Election Day, go check your assigned polling place on the My Voter Page.
For those marking their calendars, remember that on November 4, voting is only permissible at your assigned polling location. These locations are not necessarily the same as the previous election, so it's crucial to verify ahead of time. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, giving everyone ample time to participate in Milton's democratic process.
