Minneapolis residents have an opportunity to voice their thoughts on the city's financial future at an upcoming community meeting regarding the 2026 budget. The session, hosted by Ward 9 Council Member Jason Chavez, will take place on Monday, Sept. 29, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center located at 3400 15th Ave. S. This public gathering will serve as a platform for constituents to learn and provide input on the budget-making process.
In an effort to foster transparency and engage community members in policymaking, the meeting will feature staff from the Budget department, including the City’s Budget Director. According to a social media post by Chavez, these officials will "provide an overview of the budget process, some context for 2026, as well as time for Q&A." The event is part of the council member's efforts to ensure that community voices are heard and considered in the fiscal planning of the city.
Chavez’s office is reaching out to citizens, encouraging participation, and stressing the importance of communal insights in shaping the budget to better reflect the needs and priorities of Minneapolis neighborhoods. Those unable to attend the meeting are invited to reach out to Chavez's office with any questions or comments they might have regarding the city’s budgetary plans or the public hearings process.
