Seeking to bolster their ranks ahead of the winter season, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is currently on the hunt for full-time maintenance workers and emergency maintenance equipment operators. The effort to maintain more than 33,000 miles of state routes in the face of winter's challenges has MoDOT searching for additional hands to manage snow and ice, as reported by MoDOT's official website.
With a staff of 2,400 maintenance employees at the ready, MoDOT recognizes the heightened need, offering shifts sculpted to come in the forms of either an eight-hour or a 12-hour commitment. Treating and plowing the roads requires more labor, especially when Missouri's weather decides to turn its white and frosty head. MoDOT State Maintenance Director Darin Hamelink revealed, "Treating and maintaining our roadways during winter are critical services that help Missouri travelers get where they need to be as safely as possible," indicating the importance of these roles for community safety.
The terms for prospective applicants are simple: be at least 18, pass a criminal background check, and for full-timers, a CDL permit is preferred – though not mandatory – while emergency workers must already hold a CDL. And the pay is competitive, with a minimum starting salary of $19.91 an hour that can vary with the level of experience.
Moreover, additional monetary incentives are up for grabs, with workers potentially earning an extra $3 to $6 per hour based on the geographical area they serve in. "We are pleased to offer a flexible option and encourage anyone with prior experience who’s looking to supplement their pay this winter or serve their community, to apply," Hamelink professed, signaling that those with the right skills can and should step forward. Application details and requirements can be found on the dedicated MoDOT employment page.
