A motorcyclist has been severely injured following a traffic collision in West Valley City, causing significant traffic disruptions on Wednesday morning. According to FOX 13, the crash prompted the closure of eastbound traffic at 3600 West for an estimated three hours while the authorities addressed the scene.
West Valley Police Department reported that calls about the incident began coming in at around 7:45 a.m., describing a situation where a motorcyclist and a vehicle collided near the intersection of 3320 West and 4100 South. The ABC4 news coverage explained that the vehicle involved was turning into a driveway while the motorcyclist was traveling up the shoulder at the time of the accident.
The motorcyclist bore the brunt of the incident and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, while the vehicle’s driver sustained only minor injuries and received treatment at the scene, as detailed by ABC4. Traffic was impacted significantly during the morning commute while emergency services worked to clear the accident spot, leaving many commuters searching for alternative routes.
KSLTV provided additional insights into the crash dynamics, revealing that the car was executing a left-hand turn onto 4100 South when it was struck by the eastbound motorcycle, which, according to Officer Jorgenson, "was not in a proper lane of travel." Despite the chaotic aftermath and disruption, the driver of the car was said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation as authorities work to piece together the circumstances of the tragic event.
