A crash on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Anderson Road early Wednesday caused major traffic delays. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation closed all eastbound lanes, and drivers were advised to use alternate routes as traffic backed up in the area, according to KFOR.
News on 6 reported that after the crash, the inside eastbound lane reopened while the outside lane remained closed, with Oklahoma Department of Transportation warning of westbound delays but not confirming any injuries. The accident happened in a construction zone, where three vehicles became stuck between concrete barriers, creating a two to three-mile traffic backup stretching to Douglas Boulevard. KOCO's Sky 5 helicopter captured aerial images of the scene.
Multiple tow trucks were sent to the scene, reversing about half a mile on the highway to reach the vehicles. One vehicle was towed, while two others were able to drive away after being freed. A fourth vehicle, not involved in the initial crash, also needed towing. The scene was cleared, and traffic returned to normal.
