Authorities are currently on the hunt for a murder suspect who was inadvertently released from custody in Portland. Ty Anthony Sage, linked to a deadly shooting and robbery that occurred at a Gresham apartment complex, has been at large since his unexpected release on September 21st. The incident, which took place back in 2021, resulted in the tragic death of a 15-year-old and left two others injured, KPTV reports.
Despite the court's clear directive, Sage found himself outside the confines of the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) due to what appears to be a critical error. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office concedes this mistake, accepting full responsibility for the oversight that permitted Sage's release. A court order had, importantly, set Sage's bail at $5,000 — an amount he should not have been able to post, added KATU. Sage had been ordered held without bail by Judge Bryan Francesconi after a hearing on Sept. 17, as documented in Multnomah County court records obtained by The Oregonian.
In an effort to correct the error, the sheriff's office staff, now engaged in a concerted effort with other law enforcement agencies, is working to locate and apprehend the 26-year-old suspect. Sage was initially arrested alongside Kevin Rivas-Ramirez on charges pertaining to the aforementioned murder and robbery. "The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is currently working with law enforcement to locate and safely take 26-year-old Ty Anthony Sage into custody following his release from the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC)," Brent Weisberg, the communications director for the MCSO, told KPTV.
Sage, now facing second-degree murder and first-degree robbery charges, remains at large, and the public's help has been solicited to ensure his recapture. The circumstances of Sage's unintended release are yet to be fully understood, but the emphasis remains firmly on his quick and safe return to custody, as both the community and the justice system grapple with the implications of his accidental freedom.
