
A tragic scene unfolded on Nashville's Interstate 24 Friday night, leaving one motorcyclist dead and another critically injured following an accident involving two motorcycles and a sedan near the Haywood Lane exit. WSMV reported that the crash was a result of the motorcycles speeding and possibly lane-splitting, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
WKRN's coverage identified the deceased motorcyclist as Terrel Robins, Jr., a 26-year-old from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, who collided with the rear of a Nissan Versa, leading the driver of the sedan to lose control swerve into the path of a second motorcyclist, a young 20-year-old man from Georgia both motorcyclists were reported to be wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
Following the collision, authorities provided that none of the drivers appeared impaired and both motorcyclists were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, revealed by a statement by News 2. Robins succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the 20-year-old remains in critical condition. The crash has prompted an ongoing investigation into the events leading up to it, including whether the motorcyclists were racing each other.
Motorists on I-24 were faced with delayed traffic as the scene was assessed and cleared by responding officers, as initially described by the Metro Nashville Police Department, additional information regarding the crash has not been immediately disclosed.
