North Bend Fire & Rescue and the Coos Bay Fire Department are participating in a community-focused competition with a charitable goal. Sponsored by NW Natural, the two departments are building structures using canned and boxed food items. The event combines a creative challenge with a food drive, with all donations supporting a local cause.
Supporters of the North Bend team are encouraged to drop off their canned and boxed food donations at the North Bend Fire Station on 1880 McPherson Ave. before the October 1 deadline. With each donated item, North Bend firefighters seek to surpass the efforts of the Coos Bay team while helping to support families in need throughout the South Coast region. According to a statement from the North Bend's official website, "Every single item collected fuels our build—and shows Coos Bay what North Bend is made of!"
All donated items will be distributed to two local organizations: Bus Jam and South Coast Food Share. These organizations provide food assistance to households experiencing financial hardship. The primary beneficiaries of the competition will be community members who receive support from these programs.
