Starting September 22, the city has confirmed a six-week closure on National Street at Tutwiler Avenue for roadway improvements, affecting northbound traffic. From 9 a.m. onward, the northbound lanes between Bowen Avenue and Faxon Avenue will be closed. Drivers will need to use detours via Faxon Avenue, Highland Street, Bowen Avenue, and re-enter National Street heading southbound. Southbound lanes will remain open, but regular northbound commuters should prepare for the disruption and adjust their routes accordingly.
Zellner Construction, the firm overseeing traffic management for this phase of the project, has assured both the city and residents that access to properties near the construction area will be maintained throughout the six-week period. According to the City of Memphis, detour routes have been carefully planned.
