In a recent enforcement initiative, Governor Kevin Stitt has teamed up with Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to launch Operation Guardian along Interstate 40 in western Oklahoma. Their operation, named Guardian Sweep, targeted illegal immigrants traveling through the state and has led to the apprehension of over 125 individuals from a variety of countries, namely India, Uzbekistan, China, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Mauritania, as reported by the Governor's office.
The sweep which was designed to bolster public safety, particularly on the highways, uncovered several truck drivers operating with commercial licenses from sanctuary states, including one particularly concerning license which simply read "No Name Given". This discovery has raised alarms about the laxity in another state's licensing processes and the potential danger on the roads. Addressing this point, Governor Stitt said in a news release, "If New York wants to hand out CDLs to illegal immigrants with 'No Name Given,' that’s on them. The moment they cross into Oklahoma, they answer to our laws."
